関西支部9月例会のお知らせ

関西支部9月例会を下記のとおり開催いたします。

今回は、2名の方の研究発表に加え、エマソン協会元会長であるSarah Wider先生の講演が予定されています。多くの会員の皆様のご参加をお待ちしております。

　演題　The Unpublishable Transcendentalists: Reading their Manuscripts

　講演要旨

The Transcendentalists celebrated experimentation—in thought, in societal structures, in expression. Much of that experimentation is strikingly displayed in their manuscripts, and yet, editorial practices from both the 19th and 20thcenturies have flattened out, or in some cases erased, that experimentation. This talk, amply illustrated from the manuscripts in question, invites us to think about editorial practices for the 21st century. How might editions re-present the Transcendentalist ethics and aesthetics of flux, metamorphosis, and multi-vocality? Upending our fixation on the single, solitary author, the talk focuses on the collaborative and conversational nature of Transcendentalist expression.
