【概要】2025年、ヴェトナム戦争はサイゴン陥落と南北統一から50年という節目を迎えた。しかし、戦争は過去の出来事になったのだろうか。戦争を経験した人びとが高齢化し、その記憶を受け継ぐ次世代が中心となりつつある現在、戦争や難民経験の記憶は、証言や文学といった「語り」によって伝えられるだけではなく、映像、写真、音楽、そして身体を用いたパフォーマンスなど、多様なかたちで表現されるようになった。ヴェトナム系アメリカ人アーティストのヴェト・レは、映像や写真を取り入れたインスタレーション・アートやパフォーマンスを通して、戦争、難民、そしてディアスポラの記憶を長年にわたり探究してきた。近年レがとりわけ関心を寄せるのが、身体とスピリチュアリティの関係である。言葉では容易に表現することのできない経験を、身体の動きや声、さらにはヴェトナム固有の宗教的実践に根ざした儀礼的パフォーマンスによって表現し、「過去」という時空間を、トラウマ的に取り憑かれた状態から、「喜び」をともなう「癒やし」へと変容させることを目指す。レは、「過去」が「現在」を生きる身体によって新たに経験され、さらには再構成されていく様相を、芸術的実践を通じて表現する。本講演では、自らのダンス・パフォーマンスや映像作品を紹介しながら、ヴェトナム固有の宗教的・霊的実践と現代アートを交差させ、身体を通じて「過去」を「癒やし」へと変容させる、レ独自の芸術的実践を提示する。

【内容】More than fifty years had passed since the fall of Sài Gòn and the end of the Việt Nam War. Yet has the war truly become a thing of the past? As those who lived through the war grow older and subsequent generations inherit their memories, experiences of war and displacement are increasingly being remembered not only through testimony and literature, but also through a wide range of artistic forms—film, photography, music, and embodied performance.
Vietnamese American artist Việt Lê has long explored memories of war, refugee displacement, and diaspora through installation art incorporating film and photography, as well as through performance. In his recent work, Lê has become particularly interested in the relationship between the body and spirituality. By transmuting haunting towards joyful healing—experiences that cannot easily be put into words—through bodily movement, voice, and ritual performances drawing on Vietnamese indigenous religious and spiritual practices—his work explores how the past can be experienced anew and reconfigured through the body in the present.
