【講師略歴】
Jane F. Thrailkill is Bank of America Honors Distinguished Term Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Co-Director, HHIVE Lab: http://hhive.unc.edu/. Trained as a literary scholar at The Johns Hopkins University, she works on the relationship between literature and science, widely construed. Her first book is Affecting Fictions: Mind, Body, and Emotion in American Literary Realism (Harvard UP, 2007), and her other works include: “Pragmatism and the Evolutionary Child,” American Literary History 24.2 (summer 2012): 265-280; “Ian McEwan’s Neurological Novel,” Poetics Today (special issue: “Narrative and the Emotions”), 32.1 (2011): 171-201; “Emotive Realism,” Journal of Narrative Theory (special issue: “Realism in Retrospect”), 36.3 (fall 2007): 369-392; “The Scarlet Letter’s Romantic Medicine,” Studies in American Fiction 34.1 (2006): 1-31: “Doctoring ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’,” ELH 69.2 (summer 2002): 525-566. Her second monograph on the play-based philosophies of the James siblings, Arts of Mind: Jokes, Games, and Philosophical Toys in the Writings of Alice, William, and Henry James will be soon published from Oxford UP. At UNC she directs the MA concentration in Literature, Medicine, and Culture and is co-director of HHIVE, a new health humanities lab housed in the Department of English and Comparative Literature (hhive.unc.edu). In 2017 Prof. Thrailkill received the highest teaching honor at UNC, The Board of Governor's Award for Outstanding Teaching.

講師・タイトル説明:Pulitzer Prize-winning
writer Megan Marshall will speak about her work as a three-time biographer: how
she chooses her subjects, how she writes inspiring life stories based on
carefully researched facts. You will be introduced to at least three women
she has studied over nearly four decades: Elizabeth Peabody, pioneering
educator and Transcendentalist; Elizabeth Hawthorne, the
mysteriously reclusive older sister of Nathaniel Hawthorne; and Elizabeth
Bishop, Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet of the 20th century.
Megan Marshall is the Author of Peabody Sisters(2005), Margaret Fuller: A New American Life (2013), and Elizabeth Bishop: A Miracle for Breakfast (2016).
